Looking for something healthy to eat, but doesn't taste like boiled cardboard? Have I got a treat for yous guys. My Uncle Oscar taught me how to do this. The trick is to add four or five crushed garlic cloves to the boiling water before you steam the broccoli. He also salts the water, which he insists brings a nice spiciness to the veggies. Here goes... Lots of broccoli--make sure you use the florets, and make sure you peel off the tough outer skin of the stalks Extra Virgin Olive Oil Lemon Salt 4 or 5 garlic cloves, crushed Put some water in the bottom of a pan. Use enough water to come up to the bottom of the steaming basket, but don't let the broccoli sit in the water. We're steaming, not boiling the broccoli. When the water comes to a boil, add the crushed garlic cloves, and some salt to the water. Put in your steamer basket, and add the broccoli. Cover and steam until crunchy--don't overcook. Ain't nothin' worse than mushy broccoli. When the broccoli is done, remove, drizzle with some olive oil, and squeeze some lemon over top. That's it.
Mangia, baby!
